Patrick Kelly Rare Bow Dress
Designed in the 1980s by Patrick Kelly, a celebrated American fashion designer who came to fame in France. Patrick Kelly was scouted by YSL’s partner and his career blossomed. He was the first American to be admitted to the Chambre syndicale, the prestigious governing body of the French ready-to-wear industry.
Sadly he only designed for 5 years. This same dress was exhibited at a retrospective of his work at the Philly Museum of Fine Art. Inspired by the 1940s his designs were famously worn by Betty Davis in the 1980s.
Kelly's designs were noted for their exuberance, humor and references to pop culture and Black folklore.
